Eleanor Palmer Primary School, London

A permanent playground disco powered entirely by students. Two X-Bike generators and a hand crank generate all electricity for the installation, with every component built from stainless steel for durability and outdoor use. We collaborated with set designer Andy Knight Limited to create the structure, which houses a music console and a nine piece touch sensitive MIDI drum machine so pupils can choose tracks and create rhythms while they pedal. LED displays at the front show real time watts and system energy levels, and when enough power is generated the disco ball begins to spin. A permanent, playable demonstration of collective energy in action.
