Emergency Solar Generator for Power Cuts

The UK government now advises every household to be ready for power cuts and emergencies. The Emergency Solar Generator is a solar power station for the home: a rigid solar panel charges the battery in daylight, so you can keep phones, power banks, LED lights and radios going through a power cut, with no fuel, no fumes and no grid.

Built in our London workshop around the same IP-rated box as our Emergency Bike Generator, with a solar charge controller, battery, voltage display, USB-C and XT60 outputs. Fix the panel to a wall, shed roof or balcony and leave it charging, so the battery is full when the power goes. Price on request.

Common Questions

What can a solar generator power in a power cut?

Phones, tablets, power banks, radios and LED lights. It is designed to keep people in touch and able to see, not to run a fridge or a heater.

Does it work at night?

The panel only charges in daylight, but the battery stores that charge, so you can run lights and charge phones through the evening and night.

Does it work in winter or on cloudy days?

Yes, at lower output. A UK winter day gives much less sun than a summer one, so keep it connected and the battery stays topped up for when you need it.

Is it safe to use indoors?

Yes. The output box has no fuel, no exhaust and no carbon monoxide, and it is silent. The panel goes outside, or in a sunny window.

Solar or bike generator: which should I choose?

Solar charges on its own while you are out and needs no effort. The Emergency Bike Generator gives power on demand at any hour and in any weather. Some households have both.
